Memorial Day: A Day to Remember the Price Paid
Memorial Day is approaching fast which means the time is coming to just stop what we are doing and recognize and remember the fallen men and women of the United States military. Too often we have become numb to the perils of war, not fully understanding the history of it all and the price that was paid for freedom. You only have to turn on the news and see what is happening with the rest of the world to realize what happens when the price of freedom is not paid.
So, this Memorial Day we ought to take a few moments to not only recognize the fallen soldiers of recent memory but also those who fought against fascism in the trenches of Normandy during World War II, those who fought for justice in the battle of Gettysburg during the Civil War, and especially those brave soldiers who stood up to tyranny at Lexington and Concord in the opening scenes of the American Revolution.
Our country has never been fully just or perfect but as Americans with free will, we strive to build a society that is more just and more perfect than the one that came before us. However, this opportunity came at a cost. That is why we must never forget our fallen soldiers throughout the course of this nation’s history. Their contributions are the reason we can strive for a better society on our own free will. Rest in peace to all those who paid this price of freedom; you have indebted us all.
